Locks Heath Swim Squad happy with end of season results
It meant a genuine development competition for other swimmers who had the potential to take a podium position – which included nine-year-old Arabella Suttie who was placed first in nearly every race and also looked to have secured some county times for next year.
Arabella was delighted to find that she had won the top spot on the podium after coming first overall in the nine-year-old girls category. Meanwhile Gracie Hodgkinson took her first podium place at this event, securing second place overall in the 13-year-old girls with a number of personal best times (PBs).
Jack Newton was awarded a well-deserved third place overall in the 11-year-old boys group after achieving PBs in every event he entered, while his sister, Lucy, just missed out on a podium position coming fourth overall in the nine-year-old girls.
Sam Rush, 12, took a very credible fourth place in his age group, Tess Edwards was awarded seventh place in 10-year-old girls and Ben Wilton was eighth in the 11-year-old boys group.
The Portsmouth Northsea end of season meet, at the Mountbatten Centre 50m pool attracted strong swimmers from across the South Coast, including a visiting club from South Africa.
Two Locks Heath swimmers who stood out at this event were Emma Trotman and Zita Edwards, both 13, winning first and second respectively in a number of events dominating their age group.
Emma totally outclassed the rest of the field taking an impressive six gold medals, one silver and two bronze, and set club records for the 50m butterfly, which she won in 32.74s, and 50m backstroke, which she won in 33.52s. The talented teenager also set club records in the 200m individual medley (IM) and 200m freestyle.
Zita took silvers in 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 200m IM and smashed her best times in all of her events. Her sister Tess, 10, added to the family’s medal collection taking silver in the 50m breaststroke and with a PB. Emily Barker, 10, also had a fantastic weekend winning gold in 100m breaststroke and silver in 50m backstroke.
By the end of the long course meet weekend a total of nine new club records had been set by the Locks Heath swim club. Fourteen-year-old Abbie Daniel was on top form and achieved four new club records in 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m IM. Sam Rush, 12, swam a great 200m breaststroke and set the new club record.
The swimmers are now winding down for a well-deserved summer break.
