Two swimmers from Locks Heath Swim Squad took 11 medals between them at a recent competition in Bournemouth.
Alex Barker and Ellie Fletcher won the medals – which included four golds – at the Level 2 meet.
Twelve-year-old Alex took home an impressive six medals – with three of them golds. In the 200m breaststroke Alex stormed almost 13 seconds ahead of his nearest rival and gained a personal best time of 2:58.14 to secure the gold.
He was also awarded gold medals in 50m backstroke and 400m individual medley, silver in 100m butterfly and bronze in 50m freestyle.
While Ellie, 12, won five medals and continued to demonstrate her talent for butterfly taking gold in the 100m event with a personal best time of 1:15.50. She also took home silver for 200m backstroke and bronze medals for 50m backstroke, 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke.
Meanwhile at the level 3 Cracker meet at The Quays in Southampton, Jessica Larby, 10, showed her strength in breaststroke taking gold in the 100m race – nearly five seconds ahead of her nearest rival – and silver in the 50m race.
Lily Parker, 12, took home four medals putting in fantastic performances in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle to take silver in both and bronze in 50m and 100m breaststroke.
Rhian Johnson, 12, swam well to achieve bronze in the 100m butterfly just behind her teammate and bronze in the 100m backstroke. Emma Rush, 14, also had a good swim taking home a bronze medal for her 50m breaststroke.
An earlier competition saw swimmers taking part in the Peter Bull meet at Waterlooville where they competed for BAGCAT placings – the final placings which are awarded based on points accumulated over four races.
Zita Edwards, 12, took the gold in the 50m butterfly and finished top in 200m breaststroke putting her in second place overall in her age group. Lily Parker finished in third place overall when she took the top spot in two events – the 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.
Jessica Larby came third overall in her age group, taking second place in the 50m breaststroke and third in 200m breaststroke.
Other swimmers that achieved top three places in individual events were as follows:
- Emily Barker, 9, for first place in 50m butterfly, third place in 50m breaststroke and in 200m breaststroke
- Georgia Bennetts, 10, for third place in 50m butterfly
- William Whitlock, 10, for the gold in 200m butterfly and in 200m backstroke
- Jemima Moses, 12, for second place in 200m butterfly
- Harriet Brocklebank, 12, who won the bronze in 50m breaststroke; and
- Emma Rush, 14, for third place in 50m breaststroke
Kelly Bennetts from the squad said: “Well done to all swimmers who competed at these meets, many of whom achieved PBs and Hampshire County qualifying times.”
