Locks swimmers take 39 medals at Halloween meet

Swimmers at Locks Heath Swim Squad raced to win a spook-tacular 39 medals at a Hallowe’en meet.

In total the 15-member team took home eight golds, 18 silvers, 13 bronzes and the team improved on a massive 47 personal bests (PB) out of 68 swims at the contest at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.

In the middle distance events, on the first day, Lucy Newton came away with a gold medal in the 10-year-old 400m freestyle category  smashing 25 seconds off her PB. While her brother Jack got silver in the 12-year-old boys event.

The next day in the girls 200m freestyle nine-year-old age group Evelyn Hall took second place, with Ella Richardson-Fitt third knocking almost 15 seconds of her PB. Ella was also awarded third in the 50m backstroke and Evelyn came second in 200m back and got third place in 50m free.

Thomas Larby, nine, took home a collection of medals with gold in the 50m breaststroke, silver in the 50m fly, bronze in the 50m backstroke and also in 50m free.  Nine-year-old Joshua Beaudro scooped the gold in the 100m individual medley, silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m fly.

Shannon Lamb took third in the 100m back with Lucy just ahead and took the gold.

Competing in the 11-year-old girls 50m backstroke were Sophie Firth and Hannah Roberts who came away with a first and second – both with PBs. Sophie picked up silver in the 100m breaststroke and third in the 50m free.

William Whitlock, 12, won golds in the 50m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, and silvers in the 200m fly, 100m individual medley, 100m fly and 50m free.

In the 10-year-old boys 100m individual medley, Locks took the gold with James Hall and the bronze went to Finley Doubleday, with Harrison Kennedy just behind the podium finishes by taking in fourth place. James also took the silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and 100m free.

In the boys aged nine category in 200m breaststroke, Kyle Kirkland came second, meaning he collected his silver medal and a PB and then took silver in the 50m back and 50m free and a third in the 200m free.

Megan Watts, 12, came home with a silver medal after she dug deep in the 50m fly and Jack Newton, 12, took the bronze for 100m free. This was closely followed by his sister Lucy who took another silver in the 100m individual medley and 100m free.

Coach Lynda Reid said: “Lots of great swims, personal best times and medals. Well done to everyone who competed.”
