Locks Heath swimmers pick up scores of medals

Swimmers in Locks Heath are looking forward to a well-deserved summer break after a strong season picking up scores of medals in Portsmouth, Southampton and Windsor.

Spirits are far from dampened for the Locks Heath Swim Squad medal winners

Locks Heath Swim Squad gained a number of personal bests at the recent Fareham Nomads Summer Meet against competitors who had travelled from as far away as Llanelli, Cambridge and Watford.

The meet held at The Quays in Southampton saw Zita Edwards, 12, as the star of the weekend as she stormed the 50m breaststroke taking the gold medal in a new personal best time of 39.91secs, as well as a bronze in the 100m.

Fourteen swimmers from the squad, who train at Locks Heath Junior School, achieved a whopping 67 medals and 68 personal bests at the Portsmouth Northsea Sprint Meet.

And youngest swimmer, nine-year-old Georgia Bennetts, achieved two club records for her swims in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, at the long course meet held at the Mountbatten Centre pool.

Amongst the huge haul of medals Emma Trotman, 12, took home four gold medals for her wins in 50m and 100m backstroke, and 50m and 100 breaststroke, as well as a silver in the 100m freestyle.

Rhian Johnson, competing in the 11 –year-old category, took gold in the 50m and 100m backstroke, silver in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly and bronze in the 100m breaststroke. Meanwhile Jessica Larby, 10, took home two bronze medals for 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.

Lily Parker, 12, took silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle with Ella Bennetts just behind her in the 50m butterfly taking the bronze medal.

And Matthew Trotman represented the boys well in the 10-year-old category securing silver in 50m breaststroke, bronze in 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. While 11-year-old Ben Willsmore took bronze in the 50m freestyle.

At the recent Windsor Swimming Club open meet, Harriet Brocklebank, took gold in the 50m backstroke. The 12-year-old won silver in the 50m freestyle to follow team mate Ella Bennetts who took the gold medal in this event.

Zita Edwards stormed to the podium again with a gold in 50m breaststroke and bronze in 50m butterfly and in the 100m individual medley.  Evie Loveman, 10, took silver in 50m butterfly and Georgia Bennetts took bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

A number of other swimmers achieved personal best times and narrowly missed out on medals. These admirable swimmers included Lucy Dixon, Rebecca Golton, Jemima Moses, Olivia Lyon, Abbie Daniel and Emily Tidby.
